“Success in life does not necessarily originate with academic success” – Robert Sternberg
The nervous expectation of Results Day resonates with us all and it was around this time last year I was awaiting the results of the exams that I sat for my elective modules on the Legal Practice Course.
Take 30 seconds to sign up to TLP and you’ll receive free, tailored information for your aspirations and stage straight to your inbox, as well as be the first to know about new, free events – what are you waiting for?
Undeniably, the prospect of underperforming or worst still having to set aside time to revise for re-sits at the end of summer is unsettling. Invariably, academic achievements will be a factor that will be taken into account at the application stage for vacation schemes and training contracts. There is a certain benchmark that will need to be attained unless mitigation comes into play.
However although academic excellence may open the door, ultimately it will be your ability to own the moment and showcase your USPs that will persuade your assessors that you will be an invaluable asset to the firm with the potential to flourish and forge a successful career as a formidable lawyer. I hope the following quotes will remind you to stand firm in the knowledge that you are not defined by your academic grades and that your best is yet to come.
“Make your life a masterpiece; imagine no limitations on what you can be, have or do.” – Brian Tracy
“Define success on your own terms, achieve it by your own rules, and build a life that you are proud to live.” – Anne Sweeney
“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing.” – Pele
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” – Winston Churchill
“Make up your mind that no matter what comes your way, No matter how difficult, No matter how unfair, You will do more than simply survive. You will thrive in spite of it.” – Joel Osteen
“There is no elevator to success. You have to take the stairs.” – Zig Ziglar
“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” – Walt Disney
“I never dreamed about success. I worked for it.” – Estee Lauder
“Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.” – Tony Robbins
“He can who thinks he can, and he can’t who thinks he can’t. This is an inexorable, indisputable law.” – Pablo Picasso
